The article explains: “A number of huge temporary hospitals, called the “Nightingales”, were built in exhibition halls in the first wave of the pandemic but were dismantled without being used to capacity”
In reality – the Nightingale facilities were built at considerable expense and opened by a government Minister (Matt Hancock) keen to benefit from the PR opportunity. However – they were barely used because, it turned out, no one had thought to ask the NHS in advance if they were ready to staff them. It turned out they weren’t.
They cost £500 million. Only 3 out of 7 were ever used at all. This then was yet another huge scandal in the way the government handled the pandemic in the UK.
But for the Guardian it is simply “dismantled without being used to capacity”.
The media does not fulfil its function of questioning politicians. Instead it colludes with Ministers to lie to the public and cover up real scandals. The media acts simply as the PR arm of the shameless and corrupt governing classes. So much for the “free media”. It is utterly dystopian. There is the illusion of ‘freedom’ and ‘democracy’ – indeed they endlessly lecture other countries about it. But, in reality, the corrupt government-corporate structures line their pockets and the media feeds the public endless lies and distractions.
