I’ve had a quick look at this article on OffGuardian, and quite like it. The author is criticising modern science and discussing how much of what passes for “science” in academic institutions these days is not science. The processes have been captured by “authoritarian” states or ideologies. I especially liked the author’s account of “post results hypothesis fishing”, something I detected when I looked at some ADHD “papers”. Basically; if the results do not produce what the sponsor and the ideology demanded then “researchers” can go over the data and apply some new statistical methods to a subset of the data and produce a new “finding” which aligns with the required results. I think the author is a little naïve about how the situation can be restored by demanding, a tightening up of scrutiny and publication processes, for example, that researchers have to submit their hypotheses in advance, to prevent post hoc hypothesis fishing. From a Foucaultian perspective power will always dictate the discourse. But, definitely going in the right direction. Well worth a read.
