The UK is a partner in the US’s war on Iran. (Unprovoked one has to say). Starmer can try to save himself from a war crimes tribunal by wrapping the UK’s involvement as “defensive”, but this sophistry fools no one. UK military assests are involved. That’s it.
What war are we involved in? It was started by the US at a moment when, according to the Omani mediators, Iran had virtually capitulated on the nuclear issue, offering, no sunset clauses, no stockpiling of enriched uranium and IAEA inspections. Essentially, a purely civilian nuclear programme. Of course; it turns out that neither Israel, nor, it seems the US under Israeli influence, could accept Iran having any nuclear progammme at all, despite their being well within their rights under the UN NPT to have one.
In the opening salvo of the war the US murdered 165 (or a large number) of school children and their teachers. An event which they cannot even bring themselves to apologize for.
Today, Trump threatens:
if for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately “Open for Business,” we will conclude our lovely “stay” in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants!), which we have purposefully not yet “touched.” [1]
I am not a legal expert but wouldn’t bombing desalination plants be a war crime? Isn’t bombing energy sites precisely what Starmer so frequently condemns Russia for in Ukraine?
This is taking “no credibility” to surreal dimensions. 1984 Doublespeak.
