Liberalism – the lying cult

My last post was about sheer lying on the Guardian about the Ukraine war. This one is about more sheer lying, this time about US domestic politics. The fact is that that these liberals seem to be so set on their agendas – down with Russia, down with Trump, that they just lie to get their way. This constant lying is another aspect of the cult nature of modern liberalism. * This lying is a precise feature of how cults behave. Really; these is a whole book here. If you pay attention you can see what liberals are trying to do. They are trying to turn Western society into one giant cult. The basis of the cult is a religion of extreme atheistic materialist-hedonism.

This is an article about Trump’s recent initiative to outlaw mail-in voting in the US. It is attributed to a Joseph Gedeon. (The background to mail-in voting in the US is that several states are increasingly pushing it, making it standard rather than something which has to be specially requested, for example). Gedeon writes:

Trump falsely claimed that late former president Jimmy Carter opposed mail-in voting, saying: “Even Jimmy Carter with this commission, they set it up. He said, the one thing about mail in voting, you will never have an honest election if you have mail in it.”

In reality, Carter urged the opposite during the 2020 Covid pandemic, with the Carter Center arguing that the best way to tackle potential voter fraud in a vote-by-mail situation is to strengthen safeguards and expand voting access.

I looked into this and, as I expected, Trump is telling the truth and the journalist is lying.

This is a report on the commission which Carter commissioned and which Trump was referring to:

In 2005, former President Jimmy Carter and former U.S. Secretary of State James A. Baker, III, co-chaired the Commission on Federal Election Reform, which produced a report on the U.S. electoral process and recommendations on maximizing ballot access and election integrity.

Sixteen years later, many of the recommendations remain relevant. While the COVID-19 pandemic and record number of voters who cast absentee or mail-in ballots raised concerns about the security of the 2020 absentee process, the Carter-Baker report warned: “Absentee ballots remain the largest source of potential voter fraud.” [1]

Carter may had said something different 15 years later, in the specific context of the pandemic. But – it is a sheer lie to present, as Joseph Gedeon does, that Trump is being inaccurate, (“in reality”). This ready willingness to lie, this easy lying, this lack of any sense that the truth matters, is a feature of cults.

* Even Gemini AI knows this: “Yes, modern cults often employ lies and deception to recruit and retain members. “
