This happened last year. I work each year in a Summer Camp in the UK and, each year, the HR department sends me an online “on-boarding” form to complete. The form is produced by a third-party, a US company. One of the questions on the form is “what is you preferred pronoun”? I can choose: he/him, she/her or they/them. I wonder if I chose ‘her/she’ what would actually happen? Would everyone rin the company efer to Justin in emails as ‘she’? Could I demand to see these emails and complain if they had not used ‘she’? Would staff be told to use these pronouns?
I don’t have a figure for it but it must be an infinitesimally small number of people who actually want to ‘choose’ their pronoun! By forcing everyone to choose, what is happening is an ideology is being normalised and forced on everyone. Again; this is an ideology held by a tiny fraction of the population. And, objectively speaking, it is nonsense. A handful of medical cases aside, people are either clearly male or female, and we have pronouns for that.
I rather like Tucker Carlson’s explanation for this nonsense. He suggests that the point is if they can get people to accept this, that gender is something you ‘choose’, then, they can get you to accept anything at all. I would develop that; it is an assault on the concept of truth / objective reality by people who find that inconvient.
Luckily, the form is not well-designed and with my frontend web skills I can edit the html to avoid having to answer the question, and thus avoid being sucked into this perverted ideology as a price of getting a piece of work.
