Madness

This is British Foreign Secretary in Kiev, quoted from the Independent:

During a press conference in the Ukrainian capital, Mr Lammy described Russia’s actions as “imperialism” and “fascism” and compared it to his own ancestors’ experience of being enslaved.

“Putin’s barbaric actions are the latest example of a very old and evil story,” he said.

“One of my ancestors was taken from their home, enslaved, chained on a ship and forced to work for the profit of a foreign empire. He knew only too well what imperialism was.

“No act of authoritarianism is ever exactly the same, but 80 years after Stalin deported the Crimean Tartars, 240 years after Catherine the Great annexed Crimea, (Vladimir) Putin has revealed the same arrogance, the same greed and the same disdain for the rights of others individuals and nations. This is imperialism. This is fascism.”

At stake in this war, he added, was “the security of Europe and the security of the West”.

This is really totally bizarre. Catherine the Great took Crimea from the Ottomans in the 18th century. Are we seriously saying that act of Great Power rivalry and conquest was akin to the Atlantic slave trade? That means that all of British history, which is the history of an imperial power, quite apart from our specific role in the Atlantic slave trade, is on a par with “fascism” and “slavery”. This is the British Minister of Foreign Affairs. That is really quite odd.

Anyway; what on earth has the Ukraine war got to do with David Lammy’s personal life story? The Ukraine war is about the threat NATO in Ukraine poses to Russia and post-Soviet fractures in the borderlands. It is difficult to know what this guy is doing? Does he really think his personal life story justifies this escalating the war with Ukraine in an extremely dangerous way? Is he simply trying to distract us with a good slavery story? This is an example of how totally delusional these people are; in this case even more strange than usual.

While David Lammy is talking about “fascism” and “evil” and bringing the British Atlantic slave trade into it, the West is considering taking a step which puts NATO in absolutely direct conflict with Russia – a state of war between the world’s two biggest nuclear powers. Is “fascism” and “evil” supposed to justify a nuclear escalation? This is so evil that “it is right” to go nuclear? In truth, I don’t think there is much logic in these words. I think he is confused, has zero objective analysis and is just performing for the cameras – which is probably how he basically, conceives of his role.
