The Guardian makes me feel sick for lots of reasons – not least the endless attempt to promote the modern liberal ideology of hedonistic materialism by breaking down all barriers of decency. But this one is going too far:
Gaza’s youngest influencer aged 11 among children killed by Israeli strikes
Yaqeen Hammad offered tips for surviving life under bombardment and is just one of dozens of minors who have died. [1]
Well. Not “dozens”. By October last year the UN was using a figure of 14,000 (“and many more buried under the rubble”). [2] And Israel’s genocidal onslaught has only increased in intensity since then.
Either it is is deliberate propaganda by a pro-Israeli plant at the Guardian, or it just reflects a kind of lack of interest. (“Well, I know, children are dying in Gaza. Maybe it is dozens”).
At least the Guardian reports on a letter signed by over 800 senior legal figures in the UK [3] in which they unequivocally refer to:
war crimes, crimes against humanity, and serious violations of international humanitarian law are being committed in the oPt.
genocide is being perpetrated in Gaza or, at a minimum, there is a serious risk of genocide occurring.
The senior legal figures including multiple retired High Court Judges argues that the UK government is in breach of its international obligations to prevent war crimes and genocide.
We can add. Even an ex Prime Minister of Israel has said that Israel is committing war crimes:
“[Israel] is committing war crimes.
The government of Israel is currently waging a war without purpose, without goals or clear planning and with no chances of success,” the Netanyahu critic said in the piece that was published by the Israeli news outlet Haaretz.
“Never since its establishment has the State of Israel waged such a war. The criminal gang headed by Benjamin Netanyahu has set a precedent without equal in Israel’s history in this area, too” [4] (Quoted from Al-Jazeera)
Meanwhile. The British government has suspended some trade talks about a possible adjustment to the existing Israel-UK trade deal and has stopped some, but not all, arms licenses. The latter, presumably, on legal advice that they had to do something to put some clear blue water between them and criminal charges. But, not enough, according to the 800 legal experts who have written the open letter we mention above.
Update:
The Guardian subsequently modified their tagline to say “is just one of dozens of minors who have died in recent attacks”. (My italics). I wonder how that error happened?
